Incandescente 1

“O Adolescence, O Adolescence

I wince before thine incandescence…

Incandescente 2

When anxious elders swarm about

Crying “Where are you going?”,

thou answerest “out,”

Incandescente 4

All is lost and nothing found

Lord, how thou leavest things around!”

~Ogden Nash

I’m not sure why Chanel chose the name “Incandescente” for this warm red Rouge Allure lipstick, but to me it fits the poem by Ogden Nash quite well. “I’m going out!” it seems to say, “I know not where,” and I love its daring freshness.

I love this color. I love the feel. I love the joy of a new red lipstick.

This time, I just may have found the elusive perfect red.

  1. I seem to remember a lipstick by that name from Lancome; I believe it was rather dark? I think the name’s of things are so important as to how we receive them. I cannot wear Dior’s Poison, although I like the scent, because it’s name is too noxious. Conversely,mPatou’s Joy is worth a spritz just for the sake of putting some joy on. Quite literally. I’m glad you’re a lipstick wearer like me.

    1. Somehow, it is exactly what I’ve been looking for, and so elusive to find! Apparently, Keira Knightly was wearing this very lipstick for the red carpet last Spring, but I would be the one to find out about six months later as I don’t actually care what any of the “stars” are wearing. Or, doing.
