Full of Thanks

I’m thankful for today
for I do not know what tomorrow brings.

I’m thankful my son is home with me now
before he becomes a Marine in January.

Or, sooner.

I’m thankful for the lessons I’m learning in acceptance
because the more that I dwell in knowing what I cannot change
the more I dwell in peace.

I’m thankful for books
which let me escape into story, or
let me dwell in the beauty of language, or
let me discover a new mystery or old moral.

I’m thankful for friends I “know” through the blog-o-sphere,
who hold different convictions than I,
who walk different paths than I,
who are more faithful in their visits than I,
but still continue to call me friend.

I’m thankful for God
for His grace and mercy,
for His patience and faithfulness,
for the lessons He constantly teaches me,
and assurance He constantly offers.

Thank you, family.
Thank you, friends.
Thank you, God.

Happy Thanksgiving to each one of you.

  1. Beautiful, beautiful post, my friend! I'm so thankful for our friendship. Have a lovely day with your family.

By the way, I started Norwegian Wood late last night. It's going in my carry-on this morning!

  2. Such simple, straightforward words. Words like yours betoken a simple, straightforward heart – one that I've been thankful for since the day we met. Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy Days until the day of your son's departure.
