Read-A-Thon Update #1

Every year I promise myself that I will do nothing, nothing but read, on the day the 24-hour Read-a-thon arrives.

And, every year, invariably something comes up. Or, something goes wrong. Last year, I accidently cheered for the cheerleaders on my team.

Not to mention the fact that we entertained my mother-in-law, and sisters-in-law, for the entire Saturday afternoon.

“This year,” I said to myself, “I’m keeping the day free.”

I have a haircut at 10:30 a.m.

I have a Mercy Me concert at 8:00 p.m.

But, between those hours? I’ll be reading, you can count on that. My plans include to finish Dewey’s Nine Lives which will be released on October 12, and to finish Madame Bovary for Frances’ October read-along.

I also hope to sneak in a bit of Japanese literature, perhaps a few short stories from the Oxford Collection which arrived this week from

I wish us all luck.

  1. Maybe some breaks are actually quite good. You might get more reading done (as in pages) than those poor people (like me) who will be leaning over a book most of the time. Good luck. Get some nice hair! 🙂

  2. (Non)traditional Buddhist readathon blessing:Just as the books fill the shelves,Pile together on the floor and stack up on the tableSo may the joy of the readathonFlow forth to brighten your day and lift your spirit.Books already read, books in progress and books yet to be read.By the power of every word on the pageMay your book be delightful,As scary as Lovecraft’s CthulhuOr as sweet as a box of See’s candy.Let the power of the images evoked by wordsKeep you stay awake long through the nightMay no obstacle impedeYour day filled with books. For all of those who are reading todayWho follow in the path of DeweyMay your day be filled with the four blessingsOf fabulous books, tasty snacks, comfy chairs and joy.

  3. Sometimes life gets in the way, huh? I'm being totally selfish today, but I haven't finished a book in six weeks, so…! 🙂 Enjoy your reading dear Bellezza!!

  4. Sorry you can't seem to keep the day free – this is the first time I'm participating and I'm hoping I can keep the whole day free 🙂 Enjoy your reading, and good luck!

  5. Don't worry, just get some reading time in and have fun! For the last read-a-thon, I had all kinds of stuff to do, but I managed to fit in reading in between. :-)*shakes her pom-poms*

  6. There's always something that comes up. I've got Kiddo coming home in a while (huz just left to fetch him) but I'm going to make the most of the time I have. Happy reading, Bellezza!! I'm reading Dewey's Nine Lives, now, too! It's so touching. I've had tears leak out a few times, myself.

  7. That's a good block of time to read in, Bellezza. I can't do the Read-a-thon, but will try to squeeze in whatever reading I can (my usual method), and will stop by a few book blogs to leave comments. Your blog looks lovely again! Enjoy your reading. 🙂

  8. I've had trouble devoting a full 24-hours to the 'Thon myself. One year I got trapped at a wedding shower. The streets flooded and I couldn't get home. Had to borrow the computer of the hostess. Had to. Keep going and keep reading!
