This might be “only” an ARC, as Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver will not be published until November 6, 2012, but you want it. Trust me, this is a book you want for your library. It’s the best book written by Kingsolver that I’ve read.

Well, I’ve only read The Bean Trees and The Poisonwood Bible. But to be completely honest, neither of those novels particularly moved me. Flight Behavior, however, is stellar. It has me looking forward to every evening, when no matter how exhausted I am from teaching my enthusiastic third graders, I cannot wait to open this book and discover which gems Kingsolver has laid sparkling and glistening on the pages.

Take the very first sentence, for example, “A certain feeling comes from throwing your good life away, and it is one part rapture.”

Or, read this one which I came upon last night, “Her anger collapsed into a familiar bottomless sorrow.”
